Suggest Treatment For A Blister On Toe After Bruising

I have recently been to a podiatrist with a small break on the top of my foot just below my big to. I hyper extend the toe by stubbing it into oak dresser. It was wrapped for ten days. Day 8 the bottom of the big toe started to become sensitive by day 10 the pain was so bad I could hardly walk into Dr s office. The cut the bandage away to reveal several large blister. The docter tried to drain some of them with a needle. She felt it was an allergic reaction to the tape. But the rest of the skin on my foot was fine. I was told to use gauze and latex free tape. Soak twice a day in Epsom salt and us anti bacterial cream on the blisters. That worked for a few days but now I have a new huge blister on the top of my big toe. These blisters hurt! I don t know what to do because the break is not really healing, its still swells up and these blisters are adding to the pain. I m concerned about why I m developing these blisters. Help!

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello,

You have blisters on the toe that have been treated, it had been wrapped for 10 days and you have been applying anti bacterial cream prescribed by your treating doctor. Presently, you are suffering from pain and hurt due to a big blister coming on your big toe. Do not pop, touch or scratch. Visit ER, get the area affected cleaned and antiseptic dressing done. Get the dressing changed every alternate day to prevent infection.

You can take acetaminophen, one SOS when required to reduce pain. Take care of your hygiene. It should get better. If not you may need to take a course of antibiotic like Augmentin for faster and quicker relieve. Keep the affected area protected from any type of friction, hurt or infection. You are suggested to get clinically examined by a dermatologist. Keep the affected area at rest. Let it heal.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Nupur K., General & Family Physician
