Suggest Treatment For A Torn Meniscus

I ve had knee problems for years, I have worked construction most of my life , I m 65 yrs old and still work everyday, mostly light repair work. Maybe 10 yrs ago I was sitting on my bed with my left leg curled under my right leg. My wife and I sat there for maybe 2 hrs talking ( sitting in the same position ) . When I stood up my knee locked up , hurt like hell. It would swell up, I d pack it in ice , sometimes for hrs before I would feel some relief. The pain s been getting worse ever since , but it will go away for a day or two, then it s right back to where it was. I wear a brace I got from Walgreens for a few days at time and it will improve for a day or two....or three if I m lucky. The pain seems to come mostly from the inside of the knee joint , almost like something is sticking out from under the knee cap or from inbetween the knee joint itself. Just wondering if this is from a torn meniscus or something else and what is the correct approach to hopefully fix this problem. Thank you in advance for your help, Randy YYYY@YYYY

Anesthesiologist 's  Response
Hi, I have gone through your question. I am a practicing anaesthesiologist and pain consultant.
According to your age and history, it seems like you are suffering from osteoarthritis. Osteoarthritis is a type of joint disease that results from breakdown of joint cartilage and underlying bone. The protective tissue at the ends of bones (cartilage) get damage gradually and worsens over few years.
Don't get panic, but at the same time don't neglect it also. I would like to suggest that you should consult a orthopedic surgeon. He may advise you some investigations, x-ray, CT/MRI scan, which will help in diagnosis.
Depending upon the diagnosis, it will depend whether you require medical treatment or surgical attention
