Hello. Thank you for writing to us
Acne is chronic and can sometimes last for years or even decades; in the process may leave behind post inflammatory hyperpigmentation (PIH) and acne scars.
Oral retinoids are indicated for moderately severe to severe acne particularly those which tend to scar easily Or acne not responding adequately to traditional antiacne medications.
If I was the treating doctor I would have started you on Oral Retinoids i.e Isotretinoin.
Oral antibiotics can be combined together with Isotretinoin to achieve faster results. I usually choose Azithromycin for this purpose.
Topical antiacne treatment that I usually prefer in my patients consists of either topical clindamycin or topical
benzoyl peroxide as a spot treatment for active acne during day time.
At night, I usually plan to start my patients on Topical retinoids e,g Adapalene gel. Topical retinoids are comedolytic and antiinflammatory in action and therefore help with both existing acne as well as prevent new acne formation.
I suggest you to visit a
dermatologist in your region for an assessment of the severity of your acne and appropriate treatment.
You may opt for a few sessions of chemical peeling from your dermatologist. Various types of
chemical peels are available;
salicylic acid peel is mainly for acne while glycolic peel is mainly for
post acne hyperpigmentation and acne scars.
For acne scars besides chemical peeling various options that are usually available with a dermatologist are
dermabrasion, fractional Co2 Laser, dermaroller, subcision etc.
The choice of procedure(s) is guided by the severity and type of acne scars and the best procedure for this purpose is usually chosen after discussion with your treating dermatologist.
The cost of treatment varies according to the type of procedure, number of sessions and also from doctor to doctor.
I suggest you to visit a doctor in your region for more details about these procedues.
