Hi, I have mild form of acne that improves when using Duac cream but comes back once I stop using the cream. This has been on going for a year or so. So today my doctor has prescribed Lymecyline tablets (to be taken once a day), for 2 months initially and following a review, I will know if I need to take it for a longer period if time. Can I use Duac once a day while taking Lymecycline? Thank you
Acne has a remitting, relapsing problem. There is no one time solution for acne problem. Duac gel (contains clindamycin + benzoyl peroxide gel) is a topical antibacterial, anti-inflammatory and keratolytic, therefore works wonderfully well in acne.
While lymecycline is an oral antibiotic mainly given for inflammatory acne.
I usually ask my patients of acne to use a topical retinoid, at night. Retinoids are first line treatment for acne (mild to moderate acne). It is comedolytic, antiinflammatory as well as exfoliating, therefore not only works for active acne but also prevents new acne.
You could use a topical retinoid for maintenance once your acne is controlled with duac gel and lymecycline.
regards
