Suggest Treatment For Aggression While On Zoloft For Depression

I was placed on Zoloft due to situational depression from retirement, divorce, new relationship....first took 50 mg daily...then increased to 100mg daily .....became highly agitated...tapping fingers feeling anxious......reduced it back to 50 mg....I am now finding that I lose control with aggressive behavior after being pushed verbally....I have never had this happen to me before.....I am thinking it is the drug? I want to reduce and get off it......what do you think?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi,

You are very right, Zoloft can cause aggressive behavior. However, aggression can also be caused by depression itself. So it's important to know if it is caused by the drug or the disease. If it is caused by the drug we may need to stop it but first, you should inform your doctor to assess you as the disease may flare if you stop the drug prematurely.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Mahboob Ur Rahman, General & Family Physician
