Hi,I am Dr. Amitkumar Sharma (Internal Medicine Specialist). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
I've been having diahrea and nauseau for two weeks, they finally did a stool sample and found a heavy growth of pseudomonas fluorescens in my stool. They started me on Augmentin to clear up the bacteria....is this the correct antibiotic for me to be on?
Hi & Welcome. I can understand your concern for the efficacy of Augmentin to treat Pseudomonas fluorescens.
The antibiotic Augmentin is not effective for the eradication of the Pseudomonas fluorescens infection because of the resistance produced by the bacteria.
Antibiotics like Ceftazidime with Ciprofloxcine are the drugs of choice to eradicate the Pseudomonal infection. Other drugs which are effective are Imipenem, & Aztreonam.
Hope this answers your query.
