Hi,I am Dr. Subhankar Chakraborty (Gastroenterologist). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
About 5 days ago I started to feel a hemroid on my anus over the next 2 days it became increasingly Painfull. I started to apply preperation h. The pain came and went now 5 days later the pain level is way down but the lump has grown in size and feels hard painfull when touched. It seems as of it has moved slightly off of the anus to the lower part of the cheek
The commonest reasons for such a painful swelling I can think about are as follows: Either prolapsed and thrombosed hemorrhoid. Or development of an abscess. This can be diagnosed by a clinical examination by a General Surgeon. The treatment would be conservative to start with by an antibiotic, metronidazole, probiotics and an anti-inflammatory with painkiller property like Ibuprofen if it suits you. Take Sitz bath in a tub with warm water for hot fomentation. Regular review will help to know the progress and decide further management as per the findings. If an abscess then needs incision and drainage. If prolapsed thrombosed pile, needs excision at a later date once the inflammation subsides.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards, Dr. T Chandrakant, General Surgeon
