Suggest Treatment For Aortic Stenosis And Hypothyroidism

Hi Doctor, I am a 71 yr. old female with aortic stenosis and hypothyroidism. My medications are, at the present, Levoxyl 100 mg, Metaprolol 100 mg, and cardio wants to put me on Crestor. My cholestrol is 192, 104/55, trigleserides 162, blood pressure in the 120-130 range. I eat a healthy diet, walk 10,000 steps a day, sleep well and consider myself healthy. My heart situation hasn t worsened in 8 years. I don t want to take Crestor and would like to get off the Metaprolol. Do you think I could go off all meds as a test just to see if they are really needed? Think with all am doing to stay healthy, the meds are superfluous Thanks! YYYY@YYYY

Hello,

Crestor is Rosuvastatin and it is not a harmful drug. It helps in controlling cholesterol and thus prevents the chances of myocardial infarction or heart attack. Metoprolol is prescribed because of Aortic stenosis. Metoprolol displays favorable hemodynamic and metabolic effects and could improve outcome in patients with asymptomatic AS. Please do not stop any medication without consulting your doctor. Crestor usage is beneficial.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Pallavi M., Anesthesiologist
