Suggest Treatment For Black Eye And Swelling On Face Post Injury

Hi, I fell and hit my upper cheekbone hard and have a black eye and swelling on the left of my face mainly cheekbone. I have been very susceptible to vertigo since this happened, looking down or standing up fast causes dizziness. Once the swelling goes down will my vertigo likely go away as well??

Hello,

I can understand your concern. As the cheek bone are is swollen after accident, you may have a fractured zygomatic or temporal bone in the face. This fracture can also cause dizziness and vertigo.

I would advise you to visit an oral and maxillofacial surgeon and go for an x-ray of the area. If the fracture is found in the x-ray, its reduction with surgical procedure will be necessary.

If the bone is not fractured, then ice application over the swelling along with painkillers like Ibuprofen 400 mg thrice a day will help in reduction of swelling and pain.

I hope this answer helps you. Thank you for choosing HCM. I wish you feel better soon.

Best,
Dr. Viraj Shah
