Suggest Treatment For Bone Cyst In Femur

My son has a bone cyst in his femur and has had no pain for 2 years until last week. For no reason it is causing discomfort and surgeon is suggesting rods. I really hate the thought of another surgery and I'm unsure of the benefits. He has had 2 curettages with steroid inj and small fracture 2 years ago.
