Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
I have bursitis in my knees and elbows to be honest I think I have it everywhere, I went to the doctor and he told me take nurofen but they don t seem to be helping, I am swollen the last few weeks now is there anything else I can do to get rid of it ?
Bursitis might be due to giving excess pressure on the bursae around a joint by repetitive movements like lifting hands or something over your head repeatedly or leaning on the elbows for longer duration or extensive kneeling. It can also be due to any injury or trauma or other inflammatory conditions like rheumatoid arthritis, gout and infections.
I advise you to: -Do an ultrasound or MRI - Take analgesics and antibiotics to relieve pain and infection - Physiotherapy - A corticosteroid injection into the bursa of the affected joints can relieve pain and inflammation - Aspiration or surgical draining of bursa if necessary
Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards,
Dr. Yogapriya Vasudevan, General & Family Physician
