Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
Hi, I have spent 17 days in the hospital with a serious cellulitis infection in my chest cavity that required 2 surgeries. I am currently home and am having a visiting nurse 3/4 days a week visit. The Hospital staff prior to my leaving prescribed Oxycodone 5 mg while I was there. Once I started this drug my blood pressure has steadily climbed. When in the hospital I was on a morphine pump and Diuladid (sp) - my pressure was at the highest 135/80 more consistently running between 125/75- as of today it is 180/100. I am eating very healthy=proteins to heal/ fruits and fresh or frozen veggies...LOW salt! My Mom has A-fib and we have already followed a good diet- No smoking have quit for a few years...Your thoughts?
Severe pain can cause rapid increase in blood pressure. You can re check the blood pressure value after few hours to check whether the readings are transient or not. If the blood pressure persistently high, you have to start on anti hypertensives to bring it down.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
