Suggest Treatment For Chronic And Bleeding Hemorroids
yes.My husband has lost 1# a day for the past 5 days.No other symptoms except bleeding hemorroids which are chronic.ER MD checked blood work fine.no active bleeding (Hgb 15).Colo-rectal surgeon FAST referral from primary MD was a big Ho Hum -we will get you in for an out patient colonoscopy in 2 to 3 weeks! My husband does have a long hx of GERD and I Suggested having both upper and lower GI tests. They are trying to see if it can be done on same day. I work for this same huge (self insured) Academic Hosp system with fancy new 300 bed Cancer hospital and I am stunned he would not be admitted for a work up. I also can t understand how 61 yr old man eating regular full meals and no changes in how much he is going to the bathroom,no change in sleeping or exercise,no traveling,no pain,no fatigue can melt 7# in 5 days.I double check my weight on the same scale and the scale is fine.
In your case, blood presence in stool doesn’t seem to be something serious. And in most causes of are benign and include hemorrhoids, anal fissure or rectal polyps. These are primarily treated with stool softener, diet and sitzbaths.
If there are some other symptoms such as weigh loss or pain or inability to have bowel movements then some further tests should be done.
It is common that hard stool lead to bleeding due to fragile hemorrhoids so it is important to soften your stool with appropriate diet that include lot of fluids, probiotics, high fibre food and stool softeners to avoid hard stool and straining.
If there is no improvement in next few weeks, then tests are required which include colonoscopy and irigography.
Other causes may be more serious and include tumors or inflammatory bowel diseases and these should be ruled out with colonoscopy which must be done if there is low blood count present or rapid weight loss.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Take care
Regards,
Dr. Iven Romic Rommstein
