Suggest Treatment For Chronic Depression

So for 4 years I have had depression it did not tell anybody, until 2 weeks ago it got 100% worse. I started thinking about suicide and death every day. And I have cut my self once to see if it would help, and it did so I kept cutting and wanted to bleed more.I do it with a clean knife, I also do it in a safer area. But I can't stop cutting.I have a physical exam on the 19th and want to say something but dont know what will happen. And I have tryed exercise and eating better and all of that but its not helping. What will the doctor say about depression or cutting? How do I tell them?

Hello thanks for asking from HCM for your health related queries

I can understand your concern. The symptoms like thinking about suicide, parasuicidal attempts, depressed mood etc can occur due to depression. But other possibilities especially personality disorders like Borderline personality disorder should also be ruled out. Visit a psychiatrist for help.

No need to shy from doctors, just tell the doctors what main symptoms you are having and this will help them in making the diagnosis. Most of these symptoms of chronic depression respond to medicines. SSRIs are commonly used drugs for depression. Sertraline, Fluoxetine, Paroxetine etc are used commonly. These medicines will help to reduce the depressive symptoms and will help in good functioning. Please visit a psychiatrist for prescription of these medicines.

Thanks, Hope this helps you. Take care
