General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi
Thanks for posting on HCM
The liver normally converts ammonia into urea, which is then eliminated in urine. Ammonia levels in blood rise when the liver is not able to convert ammonia to urea.High ammonia may result in encephalopathy that may manifest with confusion.
A kidney infection may not be caused by this condition or its trestment. It may just be a coincidence. From the result of urinalysis, the germ in cause of the kidney infection may be identified and treatment will be administered.
Hope this will help
Best regards
