Suggest Treatment For Cortical Dysplasia After Seizures

I started having seizures of unknown origin about 2 months ago. I always have a severe, crushing headache after each seizure which usually goes away within 24 hours with medication. I had my last seizure on Tuesday had a headache for 5 days, this time with cognitive effects, numbness on the right side of my head and cheek and visual disturbances. I went to the ER on Friday and they sent me home the next day with a MRI that has had "no change" since the last on 3/22 with right focal cortical dysplasia.

Hello !
Thank you for the question 1
The cortical dysplasia is not an acquired lesion after seizures. It is present from your birth , and it is the cause of seizures.
I would like to know the antiepileptic drugs you are taking for your seizures.
In my opinion the headaches you are having following your seizures may be migraine or migraine like headaches.
Epilepsy seizures and migraine have similar mechanisms and can trigger each other . They are commonly associated disorder. Anti epilepsy drugs like levetiracetam, topamax, lamotrigine, Valproate can improve both situation.
Regarding cortical dysplasia it can be treated surgically if seizures are drug resistent ( they do not stop or improve in frequency from different antiepileptic drugs).
Hope to have been helpful!
Thank you for using HCM!
Best wishes, Dr. Abaz Quka
