Suggest Treatment For Cough And Chest Pain

I have had a cough now for five weeks and have some mild chest pain which comes and goes, i also have some blood in my sputum and occassionally it is pink in colour. I have been to my G.P several times and they believe it to be acid reflux and have sent me for a chest x-ray and that came back clear. Now they want me to go for an endoscopy but not until the 8th of June. I don t know what to do in the meantime.

General & Family Physician 's  Response
HI, thanks for using healthcare magic

GERD (gastroesophageal reflux disease) can be associated with a persistent cough.
Other common causes are post nasal drip due to sinusitis and asthma. Post nasal drip is the most common cause for chronic cough.

If your symptoms are related to reflux then treatment involves: (1) lifestyle changes such as reducing the use of fried/spicy/acidic/fatty foods

Using smaller meals

Waiting at least 2 hours after a meal before lying down.

(2)medications such as prevacid, protonix, prilosec, nexium

You can try these changes prior to your visit to see if your cough improves.

I hope this helps
