Hi Dr. Matthew, How are u? My question yo you is i am detected with dengue fever on Monday and hospitalizes same night..Now, my fever is completely normal but platelet count is reduced to 74,000...When they will increase and is there any risk behind it?
Hello Denguefever is caused by dengue virus. The main treatment of the condition is by adequate hydration by giving intravenous fluids and oral fluids. The disease runs a self limiting course however it involves destruction of platelets hence reducing the platelet count. If the count decrease below 10,000 then it requires platelet transfusion. Hence close monitoring of platelet count is required.
Thank you
