Suggest Treatment For Depression And Suicidal Thoughts While On Trazadone And Xanax

I am taking tenmg of Lexapro For very severe depression, I suffer from Bi-Polar depression for 35 years now. I am on Trazadone 100mg, five times daily, Xanax, and a very small amount of Haldoperidol. I have been on these three amounts of medication when antidepressant medications finally became available and am still on those three pills. January 2015 I suffered a breakdown and cry 24 hours a day & have had bouts of suicidal thoughts. Is one Lexapro enough?

Hi,

I do not think only Lexapro is sufficient in your case to stop the suicidal thoughts. We may have to try different drugs or combinations to be effective. Along with your usual drugs for bipolar disorder, you may try lithium under guidance of your doctor. In a long term study it has proved effective in preventing suicidal ideation. However, if the thoughts are very strong, then it is an emergency and there is a need of immediate hospitalization.
