Hi,I am Dr. Alexander H. Sheppe (Psychiatrist). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
Dear Doctor,My Husband is suffering with a high depression State. He is 37 Years old and its almost 11 years of our marriage and we have a son. He doesn t have any past medical history but he got a panic attack 8 months before due to Hyperthyrodism and admitted to hospital for one week.He is very upset with some past incidences before our marriage and couldn t able to cope up/overcome that now.
I can understand your concern regarding your husband's condition. It would have helped if you would have mentioned the exact symptoms that your husband is suffering from.
You should seek a psychiatric consultation for your husband for complete evaluation and initiating treatment. Depression is a condition which is highly amenable to treatment. Medicines like venlafaxine or sertraline would be effective and helpful in treating depression.
You have also mentioned about some past incidences that your husband is unable to overcome. Treatment of depression can help him do that. Discussing those issues with someone can help him feel better. You can also discuss the option of psychotherapy in form of supportive therapy with your psychiatrist. It may work in his case.
I do hope that I was able to help you with your query. Best wishes.
