Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
First time ever I have received blood test results indicating high blood glucose level (213 fasting). My dr. says I need to see a diabetes specialist. No harm in doing so I suppose, though my initial thought is to test again as results may have been erroneous?
First of all it's sad to know what you had been going through lately. Based on the history you have shared, fasting blood glucose of 213mg/dl is significant enough to label diabetes mellitus.
But to be sure instead of getting fasting sugar again you can get HBA1c test done, it will give you 3 months average of your blood sugars and if it comes iut to be more than 6.5% you might need to start medication mainly metformin alongwith totally sugar free diet.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Take care
Regards,
Dr. Saddiq Ulabidin, General & Family Physician
