hi doc. i stopped using my insuline 3 weeks ago, because i was eating very little and getting fat on such a short period of time! today i ate considerably more than i use to eat on my diet, and my glucosimeter show the H1 result. how much time can i still keep on without insuline untill i have ketoacidosis or some other harm?
Dear Sir/Madam, Please rush and take your insulin right now. Insulin should not be stopped altogether because you are eating little. You should have checked your blood sugars regularly and slowly reduced the insulin dose. Second point is that the blood sugar monitoring should have been continued after stopping of insulin. If you are a type 1 there is no question of stopping insulin at all. Most glucometers are calibrated to read blood sugars upto 600mg. If it is showing HI that means blood sugars are above the capacity of the meter. Its is not prudent to wait for ketosis to set in. Please take your insulin right now. Best advice would be to get medical help to control your sugars right now. Get well soon! Dr.Riuyaz Sheriff
