Suggest Treatment For Discharge From Anus After Fistulotomy
I had an a fistula in ano. After a fistulotomy, the internal opening closed but external opening not still have discharge (pus). A second surgery was done to remove all infected tissues because the surgeon suspected a chronic infection. After 17 days, I still see discharge and it sems to me that there is a communicating tract with the opposite side (because I noticed s tiffness which as the doctor said it is not an abcess because no pus was noticed when he used a syring to check the stiffness).
* There sounds to be infection focus here leading to discharge from the anus.
* My guidelines at present
- continue sitz bath
- local care with sterile dressing
- continue antibiotics as per the advice
- keep the stool consistency soft with high fibre diet and bulk laxatives
- discuss the need of culture report of the discharge to plan out perfect antibiotic management
- discuss the need of MRI of the local part to evaluate the internal extent of healing and non-healing areas so far.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Take care
Regards,
Dr Bhagyesh V. Patel, General Surgeon
