Hi,I am Dr. Subhankar Chakraborty (Gastroenterologist). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
This is an embarrassing topic. I have fairly moderate crohn s disease with complications. I developed a severe fistula in ano with the sphincter muscles fully penetrated by the tract. In April 2013 I had a bio-plug procedure done which failed. In July 2013 I had an anal fisulotmy via cutting seton which dissected the tract about 80% thru. In October I had a traditional anal fisulotomy to finish the dissection of the tract. Its been 4 months and the area is healing well. While I doubt it will ever get back to normal it is still improving. My question is of a delicate nature. Is there any guidelines regarding anal fistulotomy patients and ano receptive sex. I find it uncomfortable to discuss face to face with my surgeon. Is it something that will eventually be ok. Or does this condition ruin that aspect of an adventurous sex life for good.
Sorry to hear about what you are going through. I am sorry to tell you that anal receptive sex won't be a good option as you the history of repeated surgical procedures which may impact healing or cause aggravating the disease as some form of infections may be transmitted through this route.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards,
Dr. Muhammad Zahir Shah, Internal Medicine Specialist
