my brother who is of 16 yrs old is suffering from epilepsy immediately after 6 months of birth & he's having the medicines namely valparin,Topamac & Oxmazatol presently..........so is ther any cure????
Firstly he used to have the jerks for 2-3 hrs continuously, almost before many yrs when he was small but now he gets it for few minutes & then it stops. So my question is does it stops coz we r diverting his attention or is it stoping by itself??
Hello and Thanks for posting your query on Healthcaremagic.
Hi, I had gone through the problem and looked into the details mentioned. It looks like your brother is suffering from drug resistant epilepsy. Due to brain maturation and multiple medications seizures change their nature and severity. Some seizures lasts less than few seconds and we might feel we are able to control them by will and diversion of attention.
So I personally feel you need to see a Epileptologist for detailed evaluation for epilepsy syndrome diagnosis and to look for alternate modes of treatment like epilepsy surgery to cure his epilepsy.
Wish you brother a good health. I hope this helps you. If you have any further query, I would be glad to help you.
Sincerely,
Dr. Shiva Kumar R. Consultant Neurologist & Epileptologist Bangalore, India.
