Hi.
Thanks for your query.
Noted the history of farting continuously on sleeping for about a decade.
Tried several medications and avoided some food, recently enrolled in a collage where you share a room with a friend and the sound of farting is disturbing to him hence you are planning to quit, wants to know is there any way to stop the sound.
As per the history you have provided it is the farting sound that is disturbing, not the smell.
Hence the commonest causes of such a farting are:
Aerophagia meaning inadvertent swallowing of air while breathing, talking, eating. This can be secondary to the
anxiety one has.
Hence you can follow the principles of:
Eat slow, chew well and swallow slowly; at no point you should be in a hurry.
Talk slowly.
Avoid anything that causes you anxiety and aerophagia. The farting will automatically stop.
Another reasons are:
Disturbed bacterial flora allowing the gas producing bacteria to
thrive more and produce excessive gases.
This can be treated by a course of an antibiotic,
Metronidazole.
Take activated
charcoal, simethicon, banana, curd/yogurt.
Avoid all the aerated drinks.
Make a list of the foods and beverages that instigate or enhance your problems and stop them altogether, particularly all sort of nuts.
I hope this answer helps you to get a diagnosis and proper medication so that there is ano farting and hence no sound.
