Suggest Treatment For Extreme Abdominal Pain

Hello! This past Monday I was 3 days late (regarding my period) and taken to the emergency room for extreme abdominal pain. My husband and I have been trying since April of this year. My pain turned out to be an appendicitis and I got my appendix removed that night. The recovery period has been fine, but still no signs of my period. While they were taking blood samples in the ER I asked them to test and see if I was pregnant, and it came back negative. What are the chances of that test being inaccurate? I am now 7 days late with no signs of a period, I m usually very regular. If I m not, I would like to see what I can do to make it come and get back on track so we can continue trying. I tried calling my DR. today but due to the holiday weekend my OBGYN s office is closed. What should I do?

Hi,

If it was the blood that tested (blood beta HCG level), chance of being inaccurate is very less, as this is a very sensitive and specific test. Even then, you may get a urine test done to be sure. This might be a temporary hormonal disturbance causing delay. Also, the stress of surgery can add to this. So we can wait for 1-2 weeks for period to come, and consult your OBGYN if not. In that case, you may be given a short course of hormonal pills to restore thr rhythm back.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
