Suggest Treatment For Familial Hemiplegic Migraine
My husband has suffered from familial hemiplegic migraine for about 40 years. Recently he has experienced and increase in frequency and intensity. He used to average about 6 episodes a year and now has had 8 in 3 weeks span of time. We tried steroids and he had 4 a week after completing that therapy. He is on desipramine, verapimil, and ASA for prevention. He tried Topamax and depakote without result and we thought initially that the antidepressant and calcium channel blockers were helping as when he would have an episode, it was mild and only lasted about 2-3 hours. Does anybody know of any specialist in these particular type of migraines?
The history suggests that your husband is having recurrent episodes of hemiplegic migraine. The medications he is on are in right direction. Hence I advice you to continue the same drugs. You need to consult neurologist for examination and treatment.
