Cardiologist 's  Response
For atrial fibrillation, very good treatment is available.
Your cardiologist should focus, first on rate control which can be achieved with beta blockers like metoprolol, diltiazem or if blood pressure is low even if not having any episodes then tab digoxin or amiodarone. You asked your cardiologist to consider these options.
Second important thing is anticoagulation which keeping blood thin otherwise it may lead formation of clot in heart and this clot may dislodge leading to stroke or paralysis.
So discuss both these issues.
Also during the episodes take rest and lye Down.
