Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
I get bad cold sores when i get sick, especially when i run a fever. I ve had a bad cold and now have an ugly coldsore on my nose. I am in Mexico and the doctor here prescribed Baycuten ointment, every 8 hours. Is this better or just as good as a pill?
Well Baycuten is an antifungal and steroid combination and can help in reducing fungal infection and inflammation but in case if you have cold sore then it is an antiviral infection and needs antiviral medicine for relief..
You can therefore get confirmation done that it is cold sores..
In case of cold sores you van take antiviral medication like Acyclovir, Valacyclovir etc. Apply antiviral ointment like Valtrex..
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards, Dr. Honey Arora, Dentist
