Suggest Treatment For Fever And Loss Of Appetite

hi doc, my sis suffering fromon and off high grade fever for the last 3 days, on saline drip, no apetite, ...admitted to hospital...very weak....all the tests came out normal. she is withdrawn and does not utter a single word from her mouth. but she is aware of her sorroundings...we are baffled by her silence !!! is it normal? or is something wrong with her.??? help!

I can understand your feelings.You did not describe her age,location and other medical conditions and reports if any, otherwise I can help you more.But still I will try to give best advice from my side.

On and off high fever for 3 days with loss of appetite suggestive of typhoid(enteric fever) specifically if with headache and abdominal pain.If widal test note done, please go for that.Sometime widal comes positive after 5 days.

Another possibility is malaria specifically with chills and rigors. QBC count will be helpful investigation.

If wbc counts normal, one possibility of viral infection.

But she is not able to speak that is something to worry.It suggest infection may have affect the brain.
