My daughter is 31 years old. For the last 2 years she has been complaining of pain in her neck, shoulders, and lower back. It has been so severe at times that she has had to go to the ER. Bloodwork has been negative for Rheumatoid arthritis, as well as for other auto-immune illnesses. She had some relief with prednisone, but the swelling side effect was significant. Muscle relaxers have only helped slightly. Pain killers help but she doesn t like to take them because she can t function on them. The pain moves from side to side (shoulders), is worse pre and during her period. She had seen ER docs, General Practitioners, and a rheumatologist. None have been able to come up with a reason why her neck, shoulders, and back muscles go into spasm. The catch all diagnosis of Fibromyalgia was given. She was put on Cymbalta, then changed to Lyrica for insurance reasons. Slight relief noted. She is very physically active---hiking, rollerblading, yoga, walking/running. She tries to continue staying active even when in pain. Some days when the pain is acute, she can only lay down and not move. Standing for short and long periods of time can make the pain unbearable. Looking for some help.....
