Suggest Treatment For Flatulence And Acid Reflux In A Child

My 11 year old son has consistent, usually with not much warning. Very foul smelling gas. He also has reflux which worsens with stress. He had diarrhea of toddlerhood, and was tested for celiac and pylori H several years ago. The only food we can pin point that worsens it or causes pain is fried food. He has also been scoped and was normal. Any thoughts. He is about 56 inches and 65 pounds. Thanks!

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi,

First of all, it's sad to know what your son had been going through lately.

Based on the history you have shared since most of the work up is unremarkable, still, the possibility of bacterial overgrowth may be ruled out. Hydrogen breath test after gastroenterologist review may be ordered.

Meanwhile, motility agents like domperidone or Itapride may be helpful. Using Ispaghol husk and keeping good fiber intake and less fat intake may be helpful.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Take care

Regards,
