Pathologist and Microbiologist 's  Response
Hello,

Fluid collection in lungs is called pleural effusion. Pleural effusion can be caused by lung infection, inflammation, cardiovascular causes or malignancy. I suggest you to get the pleural fluid examined for protein, glucose, and LDH along with cytological examination. Bronchitis is probably the underlying cause of pleural effusion. Low sodium level suggests a cardiac or renal association with these symptoms. I suggest you to get back to your physician and pulmonologist for clinical assessment, relevant investigations and thus management.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
