Hello dear. Thanks for trusting HCM. I have gone through your questions and understood your query. I'm sorry about your condition now.
May I know how much your last uric acid level?
Acute gout attack is usually induced by high uric acid, even the
hyperuricemia is not the diagnostic of gout. Like your symptoms above, acute gout signs are the inflammation of joint, redness swelling warmth and pain, also tophi (new form of bone in joint because of deposit of uric acid crystal), fever etc.
The management of acute gout are to treat acute attack, prevent flare, and lower excess stores of urate.
Some medicine can be used are:
- combination of
colchicine and oral
corticosteroids (
Prednisone), or
- colchicine and NSAIDs such as
naproxen or indomethacine.
To be concerned,
allopurinol is not recommended to be given in acute attack because it can change the uric crystal in joint and cause pain. Allopurinol is used to maintain uric acid level after the attack is fine.
Here some tips for you to prevent gout:
1. Prevent high purin diet, sodas, alcohol, high fructose corn syrup
2. Drink plenty of water > 8 glasses/day
3. Keep your uric acid level in normal range
4. Weight reduction for obese patient
5. A low fat diet, low
cholesterol diet is appropriate for gout patients.
I hope this can be useful to clarify your concerns. Hope you will get well soon. Please feel free to contact me if you need to discuss anything. Take care.
