Hi,

A sudden onset of high grade fever and headache in an otherwise normal child usually suggest a viral illness. No need to worry much if he is otherwise okay. Just continue Motrin every 8 hours, apply cold towel if temperature not coming down. If still not coming down, additionally you can give Acetaminophen, up to 3 times daily along with Motrin. He should be okay in 2-3 days; if not, or if he develops fresh symptoms, kindly take him to your doctor.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Muhammed Aslam T. K., Pediatrician
