Hi,I am Dr. Prabhakar Koregol (Cardiologist). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
My dad Is 74 years old. Two months ago he was hospitalised with heart failure. Then we discovered he has 20% heart function. He also has emphysema and his kidneys are now in failure. Urea count is currently 70. And he has bleeding in the stomach. And his blood pressure is low. He is cutrently in high care at hospital. What are his chances of getting the kidneys to function again? Should they carry on treating him or should we bring my dad home and let nature take its course?
Dear , I can understand your concern . I would like to inform you that with increasing age kidney function decreases and with 20 % heart function blood supply to kidney may decrease and may cause further deterioration in its function . Rise in urea level is suggestive of decreasing kidney function . This level of urea will decrease slowly as heart will regain it's function and when hydration is maintained . There is no need to worry about this much rise in urea level. Keeping in hospital is always better as here doctors can take proper and timely measures for any bad situation . So keep him in hospital and hope for the best. People improve from more serious conditions then this ,so please don't lose hope. Hope this will help you . Thanks for contacting HCM .
