Hello,
Thanks for contacting HCM.
Hernia is abnormal bulging of an organ or tissue through an opening in the abdominal wall.
(1) It can occur in a baby also and we call it as "congenital hernia".
(2) It can occur secondary to increased abdominal pressure because of lifting weight,
cough etc.,
(3) It can occur secondary to a weak incision (
abdominal surgery)
Symptoms of Hernia are:
(a) when uncomplicated it's a lump which is non tender which increases in size on coughing and can be pushed back to abdomen.
(b) when complicated it will have
severe pain, tender irreducible swelling and may be associated with fever
Management of Hernia:
# Truss/corsets obsolete
# Surgical management is treatment of choice with or without mesh.
Day to day activity change:
# Post surgically patient should ensure that he/she should not increase their abdominal pressure (weight lifting, violent coughing)
Hope this helps !!!
Take care
