Hi,I am Dr. Gopal Goel (Orthopaedic Surgeon). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
I need a new hip in my polio hip but I am afraid since I broke the femur in this same leg a long time ago and they had to take part of my other hip bone to lay around the break since the polio bone won t grow on it s own or that is what the Dr. said. I also grow scar tissue fast and have not had one good surgery because of this. The pain is very bad but don t want to do anything to my hip if the bones won t grow on their own.
since you require a hip replacement as per the ortho I feel you should go ahead as in today's time of advance science things are really good and recovery is outstanding. Even the procedure what your ortho says is correct, by using a bone graft technique healing can be improved.
In my clinical practice I have come across a polio patient who has undergone THR and is successful. Surgery was successful and patient is able to walk as well.
