When repeated fits damage the hippocampus, the outcome is unlikely to be normal, ever. He may continue to get fits all his life, or for many, many years. This condition, however, can be treated with stereotactic surgery, where a neurosurgeon will go into your son's brain under controlled conditions and remove the sclerotic hippocampus. This surgery can even stop his fits. However, this is a major kind of surgery, with attendant risks. You should research this both online and offline. See a good neurosurgeon in a large city and consult them for the pros and cons.
