Suggest Treatment For Hot Flashes In A 61 Year Old

Hello! I am a 61 y/o female, on BP meds for the past 5 years, no other known health issues, reasonably good health, but about 25 lbs. overweight. For the past few months, I have been constantly tired. I am retired and end up taking one or two naps a day because I just can t stay awake. Each nap lasts abut 2 hours and it is a very dep sleep. Yes, I do sleep well at night. I fall into a very deep sleep for about 7 hours. I have been gaining weight due to the fact that I have slowed down, but I am also incredibly hungry....stomach needs food!....about every 2 hours. Now, for the past few weeks, I have started having late night periods of intense, inner heat. Similar to a hot flash, but it lasts for several hours and I have to wear very little clothing and turn the a/c down to 70 to cool off. Any ideas of what may be causing this?

General Surgeon 's  Response
Hello,

Most probably it is due to hormonal imbalances like low estrogen.

Consult an endocrinologist and get evaluated.

Probably you will improve with hormone replacement therapy.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Shinas Hussain, General & Family Physician
