Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
I was treated for TB 35 years ago and have had negative x-rays since. Recently I was diagnoses with hyperparathyroidism. I have been told that TB could be effecting my calcium levels now, although I do not have active TB that I know of. X-rays have been negative. Could this really be an issue?
TB is extremely unlikely to do with your parathyroid gland or calcium level. Yes it can cause Addison disease{disease if other hormone) , but not parathyroid.
So you should forget about TB, if otherwise you are fine, and manage hyerpararhyrdism on standard lines. A most important cause of hyper parathyradism is adenoma or gland hypertrophy.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Take care
Regards,
Dr Mahboob Ur Rahman , General & Family Physician
