Suggest Treatment For Inability To Smell Without Cold Or Infection
I have a terrible smell in my nose. I just went through weeks of on and off not being able to smelling anything. Now I have the worst smell stuck in my nose. At no time have I been congested or have a cold or infection. I tried the neti pot with no luck. Any ideas?
Inability to smell without cold or infection seems to be due to condition called phantosmia which is due to nerve dysfunction of glossopharyngeal nerve and could be due to oral infection, sinusitis i.e inflammation of sinuses, and could be due to side effects of certain medications. I would suggest you to maintain proper oral hygiene. Take diet rich in zinc supplements as that will recover taste. You should take proper antibiotic an and anti-inflammatory medication course to suppress sinus infection. Chew on sugar free candies. You should visit neurologist once as well and take medications which lower down autoimmune or nervous system disorder if it is due to nerve dysfunction. Make use of oral corticosteroids as well because if it's due to any allergy it will resume back taste.
Hope your concern has been resolved.
