Suggest Treatment For Infection And Rashes On Breast Post Incision

My neighbor had a biopsy on the side of her left breast. It now looks infected. The hole is about 3/8 of an inch in diameter, It was black yesterday, but now it looks greenish and pusie with a raised ring around it that is red, and a red looking rash spreading out from it. We want to know if this is normal, or what may be wrong?

Hi,

If there is progressive redness, edema and hotness, this suggests secondary infection. We need to treat this with antibiotics. Usually we give amoxyclav or cefuroxime for 5-7 days. Your doctor will guide you. Meanwhile keep the area clean and dry and apply antibiotic creams like Mupirocin 3 times daily.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Take care

Regards,
Dr. Muhammed Aslam TK
