Suggest Treatment For Intermittent Cough When Diagnosed With Hypothyroidism

Hi I have Hashimotos and Hypothyroidism and have a cough that comes on suddenly and then goes again after two days. It is a very loose and phlegmmy cough, not dry at all. Could this be an autoimmune response to something I m eating? Maybe sugar? Thanks Vickie

Hello,

Cough can be caused by autoimmune diseases and having one autoimmune disease might put you at risk for other autoimmune conditions as well (like sarcoidosis).
On the other hand cough is rarely caused by autoimmune conditions and there are a few other more common conditions that cause cough that need to be ruled out first.
You will need to be checked by your doctor to rule out common conditions that cause cough like allergy, acid reflux, asthma, COPD and depending on age even heart problems.
If all these come out to not be the cause of the cough then autoimmune conditions can be considered.

I hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
