Suggest Treatment For Intermittent Cough With Rust-colored Sputum
I have got flu like symptoms a month ago and had a sinus infection, for which I got amoxicillin clavulanate , the symptoms seemed to disappear but now I have this cough that intermittently comes with rusty colored phlegm, sometimes tissue like, cough starts especially when I want to speak. Am I developing pneumonia? Should I get a chest X-ray, feel very anxious, when it happens. Please advice
It indicates upper respiratory tract infection. Antibiotics can be taken for a short course preferably levoflox.Expectorant cough syrup can also be taken. If symptoms persist better to consult a physician and get evaluated. A chest X-ray is also needed.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards,
Dr. Shinas Hussain, General & Family Physician
