Hi,I am Dr. Prabhakar Koregol (Cardiologist). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
Hi! I am a 37 year old female. Fit (i run 3-4times a week) and healthy (normal range BMI). I have an irregular heartbeat though. I can feel my heart doing summersaults at times and then I take my pulse and feel my hearts skipping a beat. This just happens anytime (no excitement or stress needed). My average heartrate is 60 beats per minute. Is this normal? Should I go see a doctor?
Hi, Irregular heart beat can be due to some benign conditions like ectopics(extra heart beats from a normal heart), sinusarrhythmia (change in heart beat due to respiration) or more serious conditions like Atrial Fibrillation. To diagnose you need to do a ECG at the time of irregular heart beat. You can follow up with me after the ECG. Sometimes a ECG does not tell everything and we put patients on 24 hr ECG monitoring called Holter Monitoring. So, to rule everything is normal, at least do a ECG. Thanks
