Suggest Treatment For Knee Pain After An Accidental Twisting Of My Knee
I was on my hands and knees this afternoon. When I went to get up I twisted my knee. I had a hard time straightening it out. I was a very sharp pain. Once I could straighten it out the pain went away. Now if feel like my knee is swollen and hurts when I bend my knee. The pain is behind my knee. Did I strain my knee or do worse?
This is sports injury that u have sustained most commonly happening in football players. it is a case of meniscal injury ( tear ) .Here there is locking of the joint experience on and off ( u will be able to flex normally but during extension , knee gets locked.after sometime it becomes fine ) . Many such repeated episodes can happen which ultimate wil lead to hemarthrosis ( blood collection in the joint which is the cause of swelling )
TREATMENT:
1) Total rest to knee with a long leg knee brace for 1 week 2) After 1 week( once inflammation comes down ) a clinical assesment should be done for meniscal tear, and if suspected strongly, MRI SCAN is the investigation of choice. 3) MRI wil reveal the severity of tear.If small tears, treatment can be with the same brace but for big tears ( bucket handle tears ) arthroscopic surgery may be necessary.
