Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
My daughter was diagnosed with lyrengo diskenesia (sorry for the spelling). She went through speech therapy and now she is at school. She plays lacrosse and she will pass out when she has to run the distances in practice. Her coaches are concerned and are unsure that she should continue playing. She has a ENT that has said she can continue to play but the coach and trainer have taken her out of the game. What other type of treatment is possible?
Cannot say in her particular situation. There can be other underlying conditions such as asthma or GI reflux or other nerve or muscular disorders that can do this.
THere are medications that FREQUENTLY do this but I doubt she is on anti-schizophrenia medicines.
Pseudobulbar palsy can do this and has specific medication that isn't all that dangerous. It's expensive but 5 days of treatment to show it works won't break the bank.
Or just a dysfunctional breathing. Yoga, meditation with breathing exercises fixes it in the short run, generalizing those to exercise I can teach, but it isn't generally available (breathing in time to music; most runners have learned how to do this).
Hope I have answered your queries. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Take care
Regards,
Dr. Matt Wachsman
