Dear Ma am, Hi
Welcome to HCM.
I appreciate your concern for the hot flashes with night sweats and other postmenopausal symptoms.
First of all I would like to begin with a note that menopause is a normal part of life and not a disease that requires treatment.
However, treatment of associated symptoms is possible if these become substantial or severe.
Hot flashes accompanied by night sweats are common among women undergoing menopause along with other symptoms like
osteoporosis,
vaginal dryness, mood changes, etc.
As of today
Hormone replacement therapy (combination of estrogen & progesterone) is the most effective way to treat these symptoms.
Their use is associated with certain problems like
heart disease but you see we have to weigh its benefits vs risks while treating these symptoms.
Regular exercise can help protect against
cardiovascular disease as well as osteoporosis, and exercise also has known mental health benefits.
A healthy balanced diet and
smoking cessation will also reduce your risk of cardiovascular disease.
Alternate treatment of hot flashes with sweating include
antidepressant medications like Fluoxetine, Venlafaxine Citalopram, have all been shown to decrease the severity of hot flashes with sweats.
Regarding the use of Vit E, its efficacy in controlling the symptoms of menopause has not be confirmed, in fact greater dosages may be associated with cardiovascular disease risk.
For osteoporosis intake of Vitamin D with Calcium is recommended.
Hope these suggestions could be of great help in getting the treatment of post menopausal symptoms from a gynaecologist.
Wishing you good health.
A feed back is appreciated.
